1 in 11 people in Hanoi are at risk of cancer before the age of 65
The Hanoi Department of Health has just issued a plan 1138/KH-SYT on cancer prevention in Hanoi to control risk factors for disease, promote preventive measures, early detection and treatment management to limit the increase in the rate of people with pre-existing diseases, diseases, disabilities and premature deaths from cancer.
According to the document "recording of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for Comprehensive Cancer" conducted by K Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, in 2016-2017, the total number of new cancer cases recorded in Hanoi was 22,944 cases (49.6% for men and 50.4% for women).
There are 5 most common types of cancer in Hanoi: breast cancer (3175 cases; 13.8%), lung (2897 cases; 12.6%), colon (2670 cases; 11.6%), thyroid (2057 cases; 9.0%) and stomach (1850 cases; 8.1%), accounting for 55.1% of all types of cancer.
For every 11 people in Hanoi, 1 person is at risk of developing cancer before the age of 65.
In men, the newly accumulated risk of cancer until the age of 65 in Hanoi is lung cancer, approximately 59 people have 1 person at risk; 1/88 people have colorectal - anorectal cancer; 1/95% of people have liver cancer and 1 1997 people have stomach cancer.
In women, breast cancer is the type of cancer with the highest risk of new accumulation, approximately 34 women in Hanoi have 1 person at risk of developing breast cancer before the age of 65; thyroid cancer is 1/57 people; colorectal - anorectal cancer is 1/120 people; cervical cancer is 1/125 people and lung cancer is 1/156 people.
According to experts, the cancer situation is increasing, the current actual number could be "huge".
At least 40% of people with cancer are detected at an early stage
The Hanoi Department of Health sets a target of at least 80% of people aged 40 and over being communicated and instructed to know how to monitor their health and detect cancer early. The health sector also provides preventive services, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and cancer management.
The health sector provides screening examination services, health checks, measurement of indicators and methodical tests to detect cancer early, prioritizing people aged 40 and over and people at high risk. The target set by the health sector is that at least 40% of people who are screened for periodic screening for breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer and at least 40% of people with certain cancers are detected at an early stage to improve treatment effectiveness.
The health sector organizes forms of cancer screening and detection regularly when people come to use services at medical facilities, especially health stations; screening and detecting cancer combined with other health care activities in the area; organizing programs and activities to screen and detect cancer and check health in the community.
At the same time, it is necessary to establish records to monitor, consult, and prevent patients and people at high risk of cancer, and manage cancer patients in the community.
At treatment facilities, comprehensive and intensive cancer diagnosis and treatment are carried out according to technical dialysis, while prescribing nutrition, physical exercise, psychological consultation and lifestyle changes for people with cancer; gentle care, psychological therapy for cancer patients at medical facilities and at home.
The health sector also focuses on developing and improving the capacity of the cancer prevention and control service system.
Hanoi Oncology Hospital is assigned by the Department of Health to be a standing unit responsible for providing information and organizing good propaganda work on cancer prevention, the importance of early cancer screening.
The hospital also coordinated with grassroots health care and related units to organize screening for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and colorectal cancer to detect cancer early, and allow it to be managed and treated according to regulations.

Public and non-public hospitals under the industry must ensure enough drugs, medical equipment, and human resources for examination, consultation, treatment, and cancer prevention; screening, early detection of cancer risk factors as well as instructions on interventions to reduce the harmful effects of cancer at medical facilities.
