On April 7, the Center for Disease Control of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said it had recorded the case of 5 people (including children) suspected of being bitten by a dog with rabies in Long Son commune.
According to initial information, from about 10am to 2pm on April 5, a stray dog with unknown owner, showing unusual signs and being aggressive, continuously bited 5 people in Long Son commune.
In addition to the 5 people bitten, this dog also bit 2 other dogs in village 7, Long Son commune. After the incident, people quickly chased and destroyed the dog.
The victims suspected of being bitten by a rabid dog were taken to a medical facility for treatment of their injuries and vaccination. Of these, 3 people have been fully vaccinated with both anti-rabies serum and rabies vaccine; the remaining 2 people have only been vaccinated and are continuing to be monitored and advised on additional vaccination.
Immediately after the incident, the Vung Tau City Medical Center coordinated with relevant units to deploy epidemic prevention and control measures, urgently report to the Provincial Center for Disease Control, encourage people at risk of exposure to get vaccinated, review dog herds in Long Son commune and organize rabies vaccination for livestock.
At the same time, strengthen the organization of propaganda on rabies prevention; recommend that people absolutely do not let dogs and cats roam freely; proactively vaccinate livestock and go to medical facilities immediately when stung by dogs and cats.
