Workers are increasing
According to statistics, in 2020, Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks had more than 33,000 workers. By September 2024, it had increased to 62,000 workers. However, an urgent problem that is worrying many workers is that the housing system for them is still lacking and has not received due attention.
In large industrial parks such as Dung Quat Economic Zone (Binh Son District), VSIP Quang Ngai Industrial Park and Tinh Phong Industrial Park (Son Tinh District) - where tens of thousands of workers are concentrated - housing issues are becoming increasingly urgent. Most workers have to rent cramped, damp rooms at expensive prices. Many people have to face the scene of going in the morning and afternoon, traveling dozens of kilometers a day because they cannot afford to rent a house near their workplace.

Having worked in Tinh Phong Industrial Park since Son Tay mountainous district for nearly 6 years, and for the same year, Mr. Dinh Van Tinh and his wife in Son Lap commune, Son Tay district have been attached to renting a room. Mr. Tinh and his wife have two children, and the whole family of four currently lives in a rented room of about 20 square meters.
Mr. Tinh shared that the total income, including overtime, of the couple, is about 15 million VND/month. After paying for a rent, childcare, monthly food expenses, shopping... every month, the couple struggled to save just a few million VND. Therefore, buying land to build a house for him and his wife became a distant thing.
"With current market prices, having enough money to buy land and build a house near the workplace is very difficult for workers like us. Therefore, we hope that the State will soon implement the construction of social housing, and at the same time have support policies so that we can rent social housing suitable for workers' income. Thus, it reduces rental costs and provides spacious and clean accommodation, ensuring a better life, said Mr. Dinh Van Tinh.
Realizing the dream of settling down
Quang Ngai is developing its industry strongly, creating jobs for many workers, leading to an increasing demand for social housing. Recently, on March 12, 2025, Quang Ngai broke ground on the VSIP II Quang Ngai Industrial Park Project. The project is located in Dung Quat Economic Zone with a total area of 498 hectares, with a total investment of nearly VND 3,800 billion.
It is expected that after completion, VSIP II Quang Ngai will create jobs for about 50,000 workers. Therefore, the demand for social housing in this province will continue to increase.
It is expected that in the third quarter, Quang Ngai will implement the first social housing project invested by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on an area of about 2 hectares. The project is in the 1/500 planning of the Union Institute, which was approved by the Son Tinh District People's Committee in November 2023. The project includes 750 apartments, garage, green flower garden system and other technical infrastructure works. It is expected that the number of residents here will reach 2,500 people, with a total investment of about VND 640 billion.
Mr. Pham Thai Duong - Chairman of the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones Trade Union - shared: "This project not only brings hope for a stable home for thousands of workers, but also contributes to creating positive changes in the lives of workers. We hope that the social housing project invested by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will soon be started and put into operation, helping workers in the area to settle down and settle down to start a business."
