Number of food poisoning cases in Quang Tri continues to increase, banh mi shop suspended for suspected involvement

Quang Tri - 18 more patients were admitted to the hospital for treatment with the same symptoms of food poisoning suspected of being caused by eating bread, raising the number of patients to 64 people.

On the afternoon of May 1st, Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital (Quang Tri province) confirmed that as of 3 pm on the same day, 18 more patients were hospitalized for treatment with symptoms of food poisoning suspected to be due to eating bread, raising the number of patients with food poisoning to 64 people.

The patients are currently being treated in the Emergency - Intensive Care and Poison Control Department, Department of Infectious Diseases.

The majority of patients are from 11 to 15 years old; the youngest patient is 28 months old, the oldest patient is 87 years old.

Currently, the patient's health is temporarily stable, there are no seriously ill patients transferred to higher levels, most patients still have high fever, abdominal cramps, frequent loose stools, and fatigue.

Also on May 1, 1 patient with food poisoning was discharged from the hospital. Thus, as of 3 pm on May 1, there are 63 patients being treated at Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital.

According to Tan Lap Commune People's Committee, through information gathered from patients' families, all cases have a common food source of bread at T.T bread establishment (Tan Son village, Tan Lap). Among them, patients ate bread bought at the above establishment from the morning of April 28 and April 29.

Tan Lap commune has worked with T.T bread establishment and determined that this establishment has a certificate of household business registration; commitment to ensure food safety.

Investigations show that the facility sells about 100 loaves of bread each day. On April 29, the facility sold 44 loaves of "xiu" bread to Huong Loc Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School.

Currently, Tan Lap Commune People's Committee has collected relevant food samples and requested the owner of the banh mi establishment to temporarily suspend operations from April 30 until further notice.

Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, from 6:30 am on April 29 to 0:00 am on May 1, Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital received 46 patients with symptoms such as high fever, frequent loose stools, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fatigue, signs of dehydration. Before having the above symptoms, the patients ate bread taken from a bakery in Tan Son village (Tan Lap commune).

Receiving a large number of patients in a short time and right during the holidays, Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital mobilized doctors and nurses to provide emergency care and timely medical examination and treatment for patients.
