On February 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control said that the number of weekly dengue fever cases in the first weeks of 2025 exceeded the previous year and compared to the average of the previous 3 years. This signals the risk of the epidemic breaking out earlier in the coming time.
As of the 7th week of 2025, the whole city has recorded 3,431 cases of dengue fever. This figure is 125.3% higher than the same period in 2024 and increased by 49.3% compared to the average period in 2022-2024.
Forecasts from the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department show that the dengue fever epidemic in 2025 is likely to arrive earlier than in 2024, requiring proactiveness and determination in disease prevention.
In this situation, Ho Chi Minh City has synchronously deployed many measures to control and prevent the spread of the epidemic. In addition to regular activities such as monitoring, investigating, handling cases and outbreaks, monitoring serums and vectors for disease transmission, Ho Chi Minh City has stepped up monitoring and strictly managing high-risk points.
At the same time, local health units are directed to thoroughly handle high-risk points to prevent the development of disease-carrying mosquitoes. In particular, communication work to raise public awareness of dengue fever prevention is focused on.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also requested the People's Committees of districts, towns and Thu Duc City to strengthen administrative sanctions according to Decree 117/2020/ND-CP for individuals and organizations that do not comply with the disease prevention instructions of the health sector.
According to the directive document from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, from March 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will launch a large-scale campaign to kill laurel wreaths to prevent dengue fever.
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control calls on people to proactively take measures to prevent epidemics, especially eliminating unnecessary water containers, regularly cleaning the living environment, and using measures to prevent mosquito bites.
People can also report risk points through the Online Health app. This information will be received and processed promptly to completely eliminate risk points.
