On May 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that from the beginning of 2025 to now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 51 cases of COVID-19, including 29 inpatient cases and 22 outpatient cases.
Compared to the same period in 2024, the total number of cases in 2025 decreased by 83% and there were no cases requiring respiratory support.
In the first 14 weeks of the year, only 1-2 COVID-19 cases were reported per week. However, from week 15 ( mid-April) to now, the number of weekly COVID-19 cases has shown quite clear signs of increasing.
In week 19 (5 - 11.5) alone, the city had 16 cases reported, an increase of 10 cases compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks. The city has not recorded any COVID-19 outbreaks in the area.
Currently, globally, the number of cases and deaths from COVID-19 is on the decline, the World Health Organization has not recorded a new SARS-CoV2 variation.

In Vietnam, COVID-19 has become a circulating infectious disease causing acute respiratory infections similar to other respiratory viruses. The increase in people's travel and gathering at recent festival events is the reason for the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks and possibly in the following weeks.
Although no serious cases have been recorded and no new dangerous variants have been detected, the increase in the number of cases has also somewhat affected people's lives.
In this situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health recommends that people wear masks when going to medical facilities for examination and treatment, in crowded places, on public transport.
Regularly wash your hands with soap and clean water or hand sanitizer; cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; do not spit. Eat a nutritious diet and exercise, improve health.
In addition, when there are symptoms of cough, fever, or shortness of breath, it is necessary to contact a medical facility for timely advice, examination, and treatment. People returning from countries with increasing COVID-19 cases need to proactively monitor their health and take infection prevention measures to protect themselves, their families or close contacts.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health directs the City Center for Disease Control to continue monitoring the situation of COVID-19 and respiratory infections at the world, domestically and in the city. At the same time, monitor the progression of viral variants, implement appropriate and effective epidemic prevention and control measures.
On May 14, the Ministry of Health said that in Vietnam, since the beginning of 2025, 148 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in 27 provinces and cities, with no deaths. However, the epidemic situation in Vietnam has not had a major outbreak, only recording a slight increase in the past 3 weeks, with an average of about 20 cases per week.
Experts say the number of severe cases will not increase because the nature of the new variety does not cause more serious symptoms.
In the face of the epidemic situation, the Ministry of Health has proactively strengthened supervision and implemented epidemic prevention measures at medical facilities and the community.
