Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Cuc - currently an employee of a beauty shop on Cau Giay Street, Hanoi shared: "I received a call from a man claiming to be a shipper of a familiar delivery unit. He said that I have a counterfeit order (COD) worth VND 2,998,000. At first, I wanted to refuse because I couldn't remember what I had recently ordered, but when he read my name, phone number, address correctly, and even mentioned an old order I had received, I trusted him and agreed to transfer the money."
The package is carefully packaged, has the logo of a large e-commerce platform and has a real ordering code. However, when opened, Ms. Cuc only saw a cheap headphone, of unknown origin, without a warranty or accompanying invoice. Trying to contact the shipper via the old phone number, she only received a notification: "The shipper cannot contact us at the moment".
"When I looked up the monopoly code and found it did not exist, I realized I had been scammed. The website printed on packaging looks like the real page but is completely fake, with only an interface and no interactive function" - Ms. Cuc shared.
being scammed by more sophisticated tricks, Mr. Thanh Minh (name changed) in Dong Da, Hanoi lost more than 300 million VND in his account just because he trusted the shipper.
"Recently, I ordered an item online and somehow my information was exposed. One person called to say that he was a shipper and asked him to transfer 50,000 VND in advance as a deposit, then they would ship the goods to him. At first, I was a bit skeptical, but seeing that they provided the correct information and the required fee was only 50,000 VND, I also accepted the transfer. Later, the person claiming to be a shipper called back and said that he had mistakenly transferred to the membership registration account and they asked him to cancel it, otherwise he would lose 3 million and a half members' fees per month. This man sent him a link, after pressing it, his phone suddenly stopped working. 30 minutes later, I was able to control it again and realized that I had lost more than 341 million VND in my account."
According to Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh - Vice President of the Vietnam Information Security Association - CEO SafeGate, the improper use of cyberspace is the cause of personal information leakage. Personal data can also be exploited by bad guys, compiled from websites or applications of unknown origin that users directly enter information through the account registration process.
Regarding the issue of information and personal data protection, Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh recommends that users need to be vigilant, always confirming order information via the official application or the drop-off of the shipping unit before receiving COD goods. Absolutely, do not provide personal information, OTP code, or account number to anyone via phone or text message. In particular, do not install or grant access to software of unknown origin to avoid having access to mobile devices taken over in order to appropriate money in the account.
