The urban cluster including the North (Thai Nguyen province) is a type I urban area, with the role of a high-quality medical, educational and training center of the Northern Midlands and Mountains Region, sharing the pressure of training and medical examination and treatment for Hanoi. Song Cong and Pho Yen are type II urban areas with modern industry, associated with a high-tech complex (Samsung), directly connected to the growth pole of Soc Son of Hanoi through the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway, forming a supply chain for electronics - semiconductor industry.
In the Northeast (Bac Ninh province), Bac Ninh urban area (type I), Tu Son, Thuan Thanh (type II) form a continuous industrial - service urban chain, directly adjacent to Hanoi. These urban areas have the function of high-tech industrial centers, supporting industries and traditional craft villages, supporting Hanoi in providing production space, logistics and housing for workers and experts working in the North and East of Hanoi.
The Southeast (Hung Yen province) includes urban areas of type III such as Van Giang, My Hao, Pho Noi and Hung Yen urban area. In which Van Giang develops a chain of eco-urban, commercial, and high-class service urban areas (Ecopark, Ocean Park 2-3), creating a seamless connection with Gia Lam (Hanoi) across the Bac Hung Hai River, creating a high-quality living space, reducing the mechanical population load for the inner city.

Viet Tri urban area (type I), a festival city returning to its roots, connected to Ba Vi - Son Tay via Van Lang bridge, forming a cultural and spiritual tourism complex (Hung Temple - Tan Vien Son).
Hoa Binh - Luong Son urban area is located at the Northwest gateway, and in the future will develop strongly in hydropower, ecotourism and weekend resorts, directly connected to Xuan Mai satellite urban area.
East (Hai Phong City - including old Hai Duong) is a strategic transit city and an important industrial support service center on the corridor of National Highway 5 and Highway 5B, connecting Hanoi with the seaport. Chi Linh City, a spiritual and ecological tourism city (Con Son - Kiep Bac), connected to the Northeast cultural axis.
