The 5-storey Doc Hanh apartment building in Trung Thanh ward consists of 3 blocks, each block has 80 apartments. The apartment building was built by Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Corporation since 1976 and is home to hundreds of households.
Recorded by PV on December 11, the apartment building is located in the center of Trung Thanh ward. 3 rows of houses are located close together, over time they have become stained, covered with moss, and climbing plants cling to the walls.
Many items in the apartment building are degraded, with peeling walls and bare steel. The narrow stairs are only wide enough for one person to go up and down, and most of them are sunken and cracked. Inside block A3, some rooms are used by residents to raise chickens and ducks.
Living in the apartment building for more than 20 years, Mr. Ma Ngoc Cuong (building A3, 5-storey apartment building Doc Hanh) said that because it was built nearly 50 years ago, the house's walls are made of lime and sand, without cement.
"Now every piece of wall peels off at the slightest touch. The pillars are peeling off, exposing the steel. The apartment building has been in disrepair for many years. The households have to renovate and reinforce themselves to continue living.
The family apartment is over 30 square meters, cramped and very degraded. Recently, the ceiling in the kitchen was peeling off and had to be re-plastered. Not long ago, an old man was crushed by a collapsed ceiling and had to be hospitalized. Living here is very difficult, all the items are seriously degraded," said Mr. Cuong.
According to Mr. Cuong, living in a dilapidated, run-down apartment building makes his family feel insecure. Every time there is a storm, they are worried about an accident. Everyone hopes for a plan to renovate and renovate the apartment building to ensure safety and peace of mind. Not to mention, it will help make the city and streets more beautiful.
Sharing the same concern, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh (building A3, 5-storey apartment building Doc Hanh) said that the apartment complex has 3 rows of 5-storey buildings located close together. Built 5 decades ago, it has seriously degraded, posing a potential safety risk. The stairs up and down have sunk, exposing steel. The apartments are mainly inhabited by elderly people, so it is very unsafe. I hope there will be a plan to repair and renovate soon to ensure safety.
According to information from Mr. Pham Duc Giang - Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen City People's Committee, after studying the reality, the city has considered the public investment plan to rebuild the entire apartment complex, and arrange for on-site resettlement for households living here. However, due to limited budget, it has not been possible to implement it. The City People's Committee will continue to study, report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration, and support funding for investment according to regulations, to stabilize people's lives.
