Relocating nearly 5,000 houses along canals in Ho Chi Minh City to beautify the urban area

HCMC - Binh Dong Ward (HCMC) proposed a specific mechanism to implement 6 urban renovation projects, relocating nearly 5,000 houses along canals.

Reporting at the Party Congress of Binh Dong Ward (HCMC) on August 13, Mr. Giang Tuan Phat Dat, Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department of Binh Dong Ward, said that in the period of 2026 - 2030, the ward will focus on implementing 6 compensation and resettlement support projects in areas along canals.

Of which, it is expected to relocate 4,767 houses, with a total clearance area of about 598,517 m2, with a cost of about VND 31,149 billion, from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.

Notably, for the compensation, support, and resettlement project to renovate urban areas in the Nam Kenh Doi bank area, Binh Dong ward will relocate 2,905 houses, with a budget of about VND 23,896 billion.

"In which, investment will be made in the embankment, the traffic system of the Nam Kenh Doi coastal road and connecting with Pham The Hien road by internal roads in the area, creating a complete traffic system for the area", Mr. Dat informed.

In addition, Binh Dong ward implements compensation, support, and resettlement projects to renovate urban areas on the West Bank of Xom Coi canal with a budget of about VND 4,033 billion; Ba Tang canal, with a budget of about VND 1,243 billion.

The compensation, support and resettlement project to improve urban areas in the Can Giuoc river area, with a cost of about 836.17 billion VND; Bo De canal, with a cost of about 291.29 billion VND; Cau Don canal, with a cost of about 849.60 billion VND.

To implement these projects, the representative of Binh Dong ward proposed to have specific mechanism solutions for compensation, resettlement and specific mechanism solutions for capital sources.

"It is possible to call for capital from domestic and foreign organizations and enterprises to invest in housing projects, commercial services by bidding and auctioning clean land funds after clearance," said Mr. Dat.

Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Duong Anh Duc, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, acknowledged and commended the efforts to overcome difficulties, the spirit of innovation and creativity of the Party Committee, government, the entire political system and people of Binh Dong Ward in the past term.

In the coming period, Mr. Duong Anh Duc emphasized that the Binh Dong Ward Party Committee must demonstrate its core leadership role, a solid support for the entire local political system in the journey with Ho Chi Minh City to enter a new era, an era of national growth.

He noted that the ward should focus on doing a good job of building and rectifying the Party and the political system to be clean and strong, while continuing to improve and stabilize the apparatus, effectively implementing the model of local government at two levels.

Mr. Duong Anh Duc also requested Binh Dong ward to focus resources, promote economic development and strengthen planning management, urban development, speed up the implementation of works and projects in the area.
