Prioritize bright colors and breathable materials
According to design experts, windows are the place that absorbs the most heat in the house. Therefore, using light-colored curtains such as white, cream or light blue can help limit sunlight from being absorbed into walls and floors.
Thin cotton curtains are considered more effective than thick curtains to block light because they still allow air to circulate. Pulling curtains at noon or in the hot afternoon also contributes to reducing the temperature in the room.
In addition to curtains, the color of the furniture also directly affects the feeling of heat. Dark colors such as black, dark red or dark brown often absorb more heat. Meanwhile, white, mint green or beige bed sheets, pillow covers or sofa cushions make the space softer and cooler.
Experts also recommend using natural materials such as cotton, jute, rattan or wood instead of synthetic materials. These materials retain less heat and create a comfortable feeling in hot weather.
Take advantage of green trees and natural light
One of the natural ways to cool down the house that many families apply is to bring green trees into the living space. Trees such as ornamental areca, betel or tiger's tongue have the ability to support air conditioning and create a feeling of relaxation.
According to experts, green trees help cool down temperatures thanks to the process of water vapor escaping through leaves. Placing trees near windows or corners of rooms with light light will help the space be more airy without using too much electrical equipment.
In addition, limiting thick carpets in the summer also brings significant efficiency. Wool carpets or fur carpets often retain heat, making the room more stuffy. Instead, many families choose plain floors or thin cotton carpets to increase ventilation.
Mr. Raghunandan Saraf - founder and CEO of Saraf Furniture (India) - said that cool houses often have three common elements including bright colors, good air circulation and the use of natural materials.
According to him, just changing the window layout, reducing bulky furniture and taking advantage of natural light, living space can become significantly more comfortable in the summer.
