As one of the areas with the most complicated traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City, An Phu intersection at the eastern gateway is currently implementing a project with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND.
This intersection is built on three levels, including a two-way underpass connecting Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street (the tunnel over the Saigon River), then extending through the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection. Above, the intersection has two overpasses for vehicles to turn in different directions; on the ground, there will be a central circular island with a symbolic tower.
As for the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection, in addition to the underpass extending here, two overpasses will also be built to connect these routes together. The current Giong Ong To Bridge on the Dong Van Cong route will also have two additional branches to increase the area.
According to the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), after nearly two years of construction, the project has reached 55% of the total volume.
Of which, the Ba Dat bridge package reached 85%, the Giong Ong To 2 bridge package also reached 85% and is expected to be completed in September. The two underpasses connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to Mai Chi Tho and the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong underpass reached 65% and 55% respectively.
According to the original plan, the entire project would be completed by April 30, 2025. However, the investor has just announced that it will postpone the completion plan until the end of 2025.
The biggest problem that has delayed the project is the area at the beginning of Luong Dinh Cua route, where more than 22,000 m² of land has not been cleared. This is also the area of the Luong Dinh Cua road expansion project, a project that has been stalled for more than 9 years due to similar land acquisition problems.
This land is located in the An Phu urban development project (88.03 ha) invested by Thu Thiem Investment Joint Stock Company. This area includes 64 affected households, but the compensation process has not been implemented due to the lack of agreement on which unit is responsible.
To resolve the difficulties, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City has proposed that the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City send a document to the Prime Minister to report on the adjustment to reduce the land area by 22,000 m².
At the same time, the Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects was assigned to add about 10,054 m² to the compensation plan of the An Phu intersection project, and carry out compensation, support and resettlement work according to regulations.
Thu Thiem Real Estate Company and related units will have to repay this compensation and continue to invest in completing technical infrastructure according to regulations.
Thu Duc City People's Committee is also required to review and renovate the remaining area, about 11,958 m², to develop residential areas.
In the context of Ho Chi Minh City's traffic facing increasing pressure, the early completion of this project is urgent, helping to improve the traffic system and promote development in the Eastern region.
According to the investor, the entire An Phu intersection, when completed, will not only reduce traffic congestion in the area but also increase traffic capacity to ports, connect the Southeast region, Long Thanh airport...
