On September 26, the People's Committee of District 8 said it had proposed the Department of Construction to propose the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to consider and approve the plan to purchase apartments to serve resettlement for the project of dredging, building infrastructure, and improving the environment of the North bank of the Doi Canal.
Accordingly, District 8 proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve allowing the investor to advance capital to buy 315 apartments at the Hung Phat Social Housing Project (Ward 6, District 8) and 242 apartments at Resco Apartment (No. 481 Ben Ba Dinh Street, District 8).
District 8 People's Committee commits to direct relevant agencies to complete the purchase and sale procedures in accordance with regulations. At the same time, ensure that payments are made according to the schedule committed in the contract, ensuring transparency and efficiency in financial management.
For the remaining contents, District 8 People's Committee has updated and supplemented the plan to purchase apartments for resettlement for the project according to the legal regulations on housing and land effective from August 1.
The project to renovate the North bank of Doi Canal (District 8) was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in principle for investment at the end of 2023 with a total investment of nearly 5,000 billion VND.
The construction scale includes about 4.3 km of embankment combined with dredging part of the Doi Canal on the North bank; expanding Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy streets to 20 m; building a new Nguyen Duy extension street (from alley 157 Hung Phu to the Y-shaped bridge) 16 m wide, along with Hiep An 2 bridge; building a passenger wharf along the canal, with a drainage system, trees, lighting...
According to the Management Board of Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City (investor), the project needs to reclaim more than 5.85 hectares in Wards 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14.
It is expected that there will be about 1,633 cases that need to be cleared, of which 1,023 cases will be cleared.
Previously, when approved, the compensation and resettlement costs for the project were approximately VND3,500 billion. However, when applying the new compensation price according to the 2024 Land Law, the capital used to pay and support people is expected to increase to more than VND6,000 billion (an increase of VND2,485 billion).
Therefore, the investor has proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction coordinate with relevant parties to appraise and advise the city to adjust the project.
According to plan, the project will start construction in 2025 and be completed after three years, aiming to improve urban areas, reduce pollution, develop tourism and connect traffic.
