On the evening of September 30, speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of the Traffic Police - Order Team of Quy Nhon City Police (Binh Dinh Provincial Police) - confirmed that an ambulance caught fire while transporting a patient on National Highway 1D, passing through the ward.
"After discovering the car on fire, the ambulance driver quickly pulled over to the side of the road and put out the fire. The fire only caused property damage, no human casualties," he said.
According to initial information, at around 11:00 a.m. the same day, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh (born in 1973, residing in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen) drove an ambulance with license plate 78A-002.83 carrying patient P.T.D (born in 1997, residing in Tuy Hoa City) along with a nurse and the patient's family members on National Highway 1D in the South-North direction, through Quy Nhon City.
When reaching Km18 on National Highway 1D, near Bai Dai bridge in Ward 1 (Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City), the ambulance suddenly caught fire.
Discovering the incident, driver Minh and everyone in the car quickly took the patient out, used a portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire and notified the authorities.
Afterwards, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force of Binh Dinh Province Police arrived at the scene and completely extinguished the fire.
The fire did not cause any human casualties, however the ambulance was burned down, leaving only the iron frame.
The cause of the incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
