According to the reporter's records, at exactly 2:00 p.m. on September 30, Tri An Hydropower Plant started to close the spillway, but from noon, people from Bien Hoa City, Trang Bom District, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City... brought many types of fishing gear such as nets, boats, buoys... and rushed down to the spillway to catch giant fish.
Authorities were present early, and people carrying electric shock devices were not allowed to fish.
At exactly 2:00 p.m. the same day, when Tri An Hydropower Plant closed the dam, hundreds of people from both banks immediately rushed into the lake to catch giant fish.
According to local people, when Tri An Hydropower Reservoir releases floodwaters, fish follow the water source to the foot of the spillway. When the dam is closed and floodwaters are stopped, the water recedes, causing fish to get trapped under the spillway area and people can easily catch them.
The types of fish that people catch include many types such as silver carp, giant catfish, yellow catfish, red-tailed catfish, silver carp, black carp, etc.
After that, people sell fish right at the foot of the dam, many people earn millions of dong.
According to records, many people buy silver carp weighing more than 10kg at 40,000 VND/kg.
Red-tailed catfish is the type of fish that most people buy because of its high economic value, with prices ranging from 300,000 VND - 500,000 VND/kg, depending on weight.
Tri An Hydropower Reservoir was inaugurated and put into use in 1991. Currently, the plant has 4 units, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. This is the largest hydropower project in the Southern region, contributing greatly to the national grid, helping to regulate water sources for daily life, production, repelling salinity and regulating floods for downstream areas.
