The project to expand Nguyen Tuan Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi City is about 720m long, starting at the intersection with Nguyen Trai Street, ending at Lane 162 Nguyen Tuan. After completion, the road will have a cross-section of 21m wide, of which the roadway is 15m wide, and the sidewalks on both sides are 3m wide. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion, serve the travel needs of people and contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.
To implement the project, Thanh Xuan District People's Committee coordinated with Thanh Xuan Trung Ward People's Committee to conduct site clearance and dismantling 84 works of households and individuals. Of which, 44 works were revoked and completely demolished; 40 works were partially cut. Notably, there are 16/40 cases where the remaining area does not meet the conditions for existence, forcing complete demolition.
However, in recent days, many people have been surprised when a series of super-thin and super-distorted houses have appeared in the project area. According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on the afternoon of April 17 in Thanh Xuan Trung ward, some houses have an area of only about 5 - 6m2 but are still solidly built, 2 floors high. Some houses are even in the shape of a triangle, with an edge of just over 30cm wide and have been completed and put into use.
The appearance of these strange-shaped structures not only causes frustration but also seriously affects the urban landscape. Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan (residing at 47 Nguyen Tuan) expressed: "The road was planned to be expanded to improve traffic, but now there are so distorted and offensive houses that lose all urban beauty".
To prevent the situation of "super thin, super distorted" houses appearing in infrastructure projects, the Hanoi People's Committee has repeatedly issued documents directing and requiring the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to take responsibility if there are any illegal constructions in the area.
Therefore, people requested that Thanh Xuan district authorities at all levels soon take action to inspect and take thorough measures to avoid the situation where the project is "mental and then processed" causing difficulties in urban management in the future.
