In the early match of round 12 of the French National Championship, Ligue 1 received a big shock when defending champion Paris Saint Germain lost 1-2 to bottom team Dijon.
More responsible, coach Thomas Tuchel and his team opened the scoring after 20 minutes of play thanks to Mbappe and despite the home team having to change personnel due to 2 injured players, they still had 2 goals at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half to make a comeback.
This was PSG's 8th loss in Ligue 1 in the calendar year 2019, with 2 months left until the end of the year, it is not known what will happen, but at least for now, it is their worst statistic since 13 defeats in 2010.
More importantly, the recent defeat to Dijon became the third loss since the beginning of the season. The last time the rich Frenchman suffered 3 losses after 12 rounds was in the 2010-31 season. At that time, PSG was in 4th place overall.
To point out PSG's decline, let's look at last season. In 2018-2019, PSG lost only 4 points for the whole season, with the first defeat coming in February (losing 1-2 at Lyon) but now that number has tripled after 12 matches.
Then, in March, when they were eliminated in the Champions League by Manchester United, PSG spent the rest of the season in declining form, losing 4/8 of their final matches in Ligue 1. Including a 1-5 defeat to Lille, a 2-3 loss to Nantes and Montpelier, and a 3-1 loss to Reims in the final match.
This season, PSG lost 1-2 to Rennes in mid-August, before suffering their first home defeat in 2019 at the end of September. Reims were once again the team that made them regret (0-2).
In the remaining 2 months of 2019, PSG have 3 more home matches in Ligue 1 - against Lille on November 23, Nantes on December 5 and Amiens on December 22. They will also open 2020 with a home match against AS Monaco on January 13.
