HCMC - After the earthquake in Myanmar, many HCMC residents are worried, proactively checking their homes and assessing their safety level.

After the earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, many apartment buildings in Ho Chi Minh City recorded earthquakes, causing concern for residents. In particular, at Diamond Riverside apartment building (District 8), many households reported that the apartment had cracks in the walls and peeling brick floors.

In this situation, the Management Board (BQL) of many apartment buildings in Ho Chi Minh City has quickly notified residents about reviewing the apartments and assessing their safety level.

Mr. Toan (residing in an apartment building in District 7) said that the earthquake in Myanmar on March 28 affected a number of buildings in Ho Chi Minh City. In order to ensure timely safety, the inspection department at Mr. Toan's apartment has inspected the load-bearing walls and wall edges in 3 blocks A, B, C.

In addition, to have a general assessment of the impact of the above earthquake, Mr. Toan said that the General Management Board also informs residents to self-inspect the apartment and immediately notify if a new crack is discovered after March 28.

"Previously, my apartment had a small crack on the ceiling, now there is another vicious phenomenon caused by earthquake aftershocks that makes me even more worried," said Mr. Toan.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Gia, a resident of an apartment building in Thu Duc City, said that the Apartment Management Board also notified residents to check their house.

"According to the preliminary inspection results from the Management Board, the buildings did not record any serious damage. However, the Management Board is continuing to check in detail and closely monitor the situation. They also advise residents to stay calm, limit the use of elevators and immediately contact the Management Board if there is an emergency situation," said Mr. Gia.

Not only Mr. Gia, many other residents also expressed concern about the safety of the building after the earthquake.

"My family lives on a high floor so we are very scared. Hearing the news that another apartment building had a cracked wall, I was even more worried," said Mr. Tuan, a resident of an apartment building in Binh Thanh District.

As for Mr. Hoang, a resident of District 4, he said: "I think it is very necessary to check the house after the earthquake on March 28. It helps us detect problems early and take timely measures to handle them".

In response to residents' concerns, the Management Board of the apartment buildings has also taken safety measures such as: carefully inspecting the entire building, including the structure and technical systems; closely monitoring the situation and updating information from the authorities; advising residents to stay calm, follow the instructions of the Management Board; setting up a hotline to support residents in case of emergency.

Faced with the above situation, the representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction also sent a document to districts, towns, and Thu Duc City requesting reports on the situation and impact of the earthquake in Ho Chi Minh City that occurred on March 28. Districts, towns, and Thu Duc City reported based on the review report of high-rise owners and apartment management boards in the area.

According to the representative of the Department of Construction, up to now, only information has been heard about the case of Diamond Riverside Apartment Building (Ward 16, District 8) cracked after the earthquake, however, the cracks are not significant.
