Liverpool breaks spending record
The deal to sign defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace fell through on the last day of the transfer window, but Liverpool still closed the summer of 2025 with the most expensive transfer window in Premier League history.
Newcastle's £125m record-breaking England contract for Alexander Isak has raised the Reds' total spending to £446.5m. This figure surpasses the £434.5 million mark that Chelsea set in the summer of 2023.
The Isak deal helped Liverpool break the record of two transfers in the same period. They have previously spent £116.5m to bring in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

In addition, the addition of Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni shows that the defending champion not only invests heavily but also comprehensively strengthens the squad.
Chelsea earns £300 million
While Liverpool broke their spending record, Chelsea set a new milestone in revenue. They became the first club to surpass the £300 million mark with a total revenue of £314.4 million.
The Blues have left 23 players on permanent transfers, including nine with a fee of £20 million or more. The biggest deal is Noni Madueke to Arsenal for £52 million, followed by Joao Felix to Al Nassr (43.7 million pounds).

Other notable deals include Christopher Nkunku, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Djordje Petrovic, who joined AC Milan, Everton and Bournemouth respectively, bringing Chelsea a total of £90 million. However, selling Petrovic alone really creates a profit compared to the initial recruitment fee.
Chelsea's record total revenue has not even included the £70.5 million loan deal of Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich. This is enough to help them almost double the amount of money spent recruiting him from Villarreal for £30 million in 2023.
Low player sales make Arsenal lead in net spending
Liverpool and Chelsea both spent more than Arsenal, but in terms of net spending, the "Gunners" were the "river god" team. Arsenal earned just £10 million from player sales, while Liverpool £228.1 million and Chelsea set a record of £314.4 million.
The Gunners have streamlined their squad with Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko all leaving on the last day of the transfer window. However, turning these farewells into a significant source of income is still a difficult problem for the "Gunners".

Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney have all expired their contracts, while some other players have only left the team on loan. Arsenal will earn £24 million from the Jakub Kiwior loan deal with Porto, but the money will only be recorded next year.
Arsenal's only fee from player sales this summer came from the Marquinhos deal to Cruzeiro for £2.5 million and Nuno Tavares for Lazio for £7.5 million. With only £10 million in revenue but having spent £267 million on 8 new contracts, Arsenal became the team with the highest net spending.
Premier League internal transactions are increasing
Another prominent trend this summer is the strong increase in deals between Premier League clubs. Competitive experience and the ability to adapt to the intensity of the tournament have made domestic players increasingly sought after.
While domestic transfers were rare in the past, this summer, total spending on Premier League clubs has surpassed the £1 billion mark.
Developments in the past 8 seasons show that this trend is likely to continue. Clubs will prioritize players ready for intensity in the Premier League.
