Kirian Rodriguez - captain of Las Palmas club has just completed a medical examination and is eligible to return to practice after a second victory over Hodgkin's disease.
His return is considered by the Las Palmas board as "the most important contract of the summer".
Rodriguez was first diagnosed with cancer in August 2022. He will be out for almost the entire 2022-23 season for treatment. After that, the player born in 1996 returned and competed in the 2023-2024 season in La Liga, before the disease recurred, causing him to miss another time last season.
For the past 15 days, Rodriguez has been self- training under the supervision of the medical team. The latest test results show that he is fit enough to return to the first team in the pre-season.
However, the process of returning to competition was still strictly controlled by doctors, with the intensity increasing gradually. Kirian aims to return to the pitch in the 2025-2026 season.
The 29-year-old grew up in the Las Palmas training center and has never left his hometown club. To date, he has made 134 appearances and scored 13 goals for Las Palmas.
Rodriguez's disease is Hodgkin's kidney cancer, a rare form of cancer in the lymphatic system. According to the UK National Health Service (NHS), this is a type of cancer that can spread rapidly but has a high cure rate. Treatment regimens often include chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and rarely require surgery.
The return of Kirian Rodriguez is an inspiring story of determination and indomitable spirit, adding confidence to Las Palmas ahead of the new season in La Liga.
