Chelsea had the opportunity to recruit Gianluigi Donnarumma after the goalkeeper failed to reach a contract extension with Paris St-Germain.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper is now entering the final year of his contract, and PSG want to avoid the risk of losing him without collecting any fees next summer - similar to the case of Kylian Mbappe in 2024.
The Italian goalkeeper has just contributed greatly to helping coach Luis Enrique's team qualify for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.
Donnarumma's impressive performance in the Champions League knockout round also played a key role, contributing to PSG winning the European championship for the first time.
However, in an unexpected development, the French media reported that the leadership of the Parc des Princes team is considering selling Donnarumma this summer. The decision came after the 26-year-old goalkeeper refused to extend his contract with the club.
PSG are concerned that history will repeat itself after the " Mbappe disaster", so they are ready to listen to all offers for Donnarumma. This move has opened up opportunities for Chelsea - a team that is said to be particularly interested in the Italian goalkeeper.
The Blues have come close to signing AC Milan's Mike Maignan in June this year. Enzo Maresca's side have negotiated ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, but have been forced to withdraw due to a £25 million offer from Milan.
Therefore, Donnarumma could be the solution to the problem of goalkeepers that has existed for a long time at Chelsea. Although Robert Sanchez received many compliments for his performance at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, he has not really convinced fans.
PSG are said to be looking for a replacement for Donnarumma, with Lucas Chevalier (Lille) and Diogo Costa (porto) on the shortlist. It is reported that Turkey's top team Galatasaray has sent a proposal to buy Donnarumma, who is also receiving interest from Manchester United.

Napoli are also said to have contacted the Italian goalkeeper. However, Donnarumma's representative denied the rumors, saying the top priority is negotiating an extension with PSG.
"It's a total waste. I have a very good relationship with Napoli's sporting director Giovanni Manna, but we have never discussed Donnarumma.
It's an obvious question - many teams want him, but few have the means to pay. He feels fine in Paris. We are the European champions, so there is nothing to complain about. We are currently in the process of negotiating an extension with PSG," said a representative of Donnarumma.
However, the situation seems to have changed, and the Italian goalkeeper may leave Paris in the summer transfer window. Donnarumma is said to be receiving a salary of around £200,000/week at PSG.
