Haaland enters Man City history after a double against FC Porto

Erling Haaland's double helped Man City defeat FC Porto away from home, in the opening match of the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Norwegian striker headed the ball into FC Porto's net in the 47th minute from an Enzo Fernandez cross, before scoring the winning goal 2-0 right before the final whistle.

With this double, Haaland scored 167 goals in 203 matches for Man City, helping him surpass Tommy Johnson, who scored 166 goals in 355 matches from 1920 to 1930.

This achievement helps Haaland rank 3rd in the list of players with the most goals in Man City history, only behind Eric Brook with 177 goals and Sergio Aguero with 260 goals.

In the past 12 months, Haaland has surpassed Man City legends such as Colin Bell, Billy Meredith and Francis Lee.

Haaland started his fifth season at Man City with excellent form, scoring 5 goals in the first 5 official matches.

In his first season at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022, the Norwegian striker set a club record with 52 goals in his first season when Man City won the historic treble.

In the Premier League alone, he scored 36 goals and won the Golden Boot title.

He continued to show impressive form in the 2023-2024 season with another Premier League Golden Boot title thanks to 27 goals and 11 goals in other competitions.

In the UEFA Champions League, Haaland scored 59 goals in 59 matches, a record only behind 6 other players. 36 of them were scored for Man City, helping him equal Aguero's scoring record in this tournament.

For Man City, this is their 4th consecutive victory under Enzo Maresca. In the Premier League, they have 3 consecutive wins to be in the top with Arsenal. In the Champions League, they defeated FC Porto to have a smooth start. The next challenge for Haaland and his teammates is the derby match with Man United this weekend.
