Welcoming Crystal Palace, Arsenal knew that a defeat would take Liverpool to the Premier League championship. They took the lead twice thanks to Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard, but were held to a 2-2 draw.
This result means Arsenal are 12 points behind leaders Liverpool with only 4 more rounds left. With just a point against Tottenham at the weekend, Liverpool will win the championship, Mikel Arteta and his team will be runners-up for the third consecutive season.
Sharing after the match, coach Mikel Arteta said:
"Today we played below our standards and form against Palace. We struggled to find stability in the match. The team lost the ball easily and slowly in everything. I was very disappointed".
Midfielder Trossard insists Arsenal will perform better when they host Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final in midweek.
Trossard said: "The quality of today's match was not as good as our previous match (4-0 win over Ipswich Town). The team's mistakes were punished. We need to lift our spirits for the upcoming big match. It would be good to have 6 days of preparation for the match against PSG with 100% concentration. It will be a different performance".
The Gunners will face PSG at Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, taking place at 02:00 on April 30.
