The Indonesian team is currently ranked 4th in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Third Qualifiers in Asia.
Japan leads with 19 points, followed by Australia (10), Saudi Arabia (9), Indonesia (6), Bahrain (6) and China (6).
Only the top two teams have direct tickets to the finals. Despite facing a disadvantage, coach Patrick Kluivert still believes that Indonesia still has a chance.
"Everything can happen in football," Kluivert answered at a press conference when asked if it would be more realistic to aim for a top 4 finish.
"We will pursue victory. The goal of all remaining matches is to win. Luck is very important but we have to work together. If we practice with a positive mindset, the team can achieve good results".
In theory, Indonesia still has a chance to finish in the top 2 of Group C. However, to be able to achieve this goal, they must win all 3 remaining matches, while waiting for favorable results from other matches.
For now, Indonesia must beat Bahrain. "The result against Australia disappointed everyone, but the team trained well, had a confident mentality," Kluivert added.
The match between Indonesia and Bahrain takes place at 8:45 p.m. on March 25 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
