Inter Miami and Lionel Messi are reportedly set to receive an invitation to the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
Messi recently scored a hat-trick and assisted two goals in Argentina's 6-0 win over Bolivia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 37-year-old superstar has returned to Inter Miami and is preparing for the final match of the MLS season as well as the playoff campaign that follows.
Coach Tata Martino's team's current focus is on winning the MLS Cup after winning the Supporters' Shield.
With Messi in the squad, Inter Miami won the 2023 Leagues' Cup and reached the final of the US Open Cup.
After initial success with Inter Miami, Messi will have the opportunity to lead the club in another league in 2025.
According to ESPN, FIFA will invite Inter Miami to participate in the new expanded Club World Cup that will take place in the United States next year.
Inter Miami will be officially announced as one of the 32 teams participating in the tournament next week, according to reports.
The CONCACAF region has four spots for the winners of the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, which are Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Club Leon and Pachuca respectively.
However, the region was also awarded an additional spot due to the Club World Cup held in the United States.
While MLS may make suggestions for additional teams, FIFA will make the final decision on the identity of the final CONCACAF team participating.
The organization is likely to opt for the star-studded Inter Miami that currently features Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
While the Club World Cup will expand in 2025, Messi and his Barcelona teammates have previously won the tournament in its previous format.
The striker has played and won three Club World Cups in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
In 2009, the Argentine scored in the semi-finals and final to lead Barcelona to their first Club World Cup title.
Two years later, Messi scored a brace in a 4–0 win over Santos in the final, before contributing a goal in the 3–0 win in the 2015 final over River Plate.
Unfortunately for Messi, there will be no reunion with Barcelona as the Catalan giants are not among the 12 UEFA spots.
However, Inter Miami could face Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City.
