Messi on bench, Inter Miami narrowly wins over Toronto

It took a stoppage-time goal for Inter Miami to beat Toronto.

On the morning of October 6 (Vietnam time), Inter Miami visited Toronto. Having already won the MLS Supporters Shield, coach Gerardo Martino decided to leave all the stars on the bench including Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Inter Miami were the better team with more possession. However, Toronto created more chances with 11 shots, while Messi's team only had one shot. The first half ended goalless.

It wasn't until the second half that Inter Miami started to look more dangerous with clear chances. In the 61st minute, coach Martino decided to bring Busquets and Messi on, and 10 minutes later, striker Luis Suarez was also given a chance. Toronto was not easily defeated as they stubbornly kept a clean sheet throughout the regular match.

The surprise happened in the 90+3 minute of extra time, Inter Miami gained control of the ball after a dispute, then Campana and Suarez coordinated smoothly. The Uruguayan striker assisted Campana to make an accurate volley, scoring the decisive goal and bringing a 1-0 victory to Inter Miami.

With this victory, Inter Miami raised their total points to 71 after 33 rounds. Messi and his teammates are aiming to win the final match to break New England's MLS season points record (73 points).
