The heavy 2-7 loss to Aston Villa in the early morning of October 5 exposed many weaknesses in Liverpool's defense. According to former player Jamie Carragher, the offside trap style is always a loophole for the opponent to exploit.
"Liver Liverpool's defense is funny. I couldn't believe what I saw against Aston Villa. You can't recognize Liverpool, they are the reigning Premier League champions but have received a shocking result. That is certainly the worst under Jurgen Klopp. There is no doubt.
The opponent always plays comfortably against Liverpool's high defense. Even though Liverpool have a good defensive record, I personally don't like the way they try to put their opponents in the offside trap. I was a defender, playing at the back and understanding the risks of the upfield. Liverpool are like a " knife player" in every match, and things are getting worse. Fortunately, they have not conceded 8 or 9 goals," Jamie Carragher shared.
Concerned about the upcoming journey of his former team, Carragher especially emphasized that Liverpool will soon have to face the leader Everton.
"Looking at it, Liverpool have started conceding more goals since they were introduced last season. Next week will be the Merseyside derby, a big win against Everton. The coaches and students are top of the Premier League. I look at it and wonder if this is just a phenomenon or will tend to last longer than 10 to 15 matches causing this," commented the commentator of Sky Sports.
