Coach Mikel Arteta believes Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz can completely stand side by side at Arsenal, after both scored in the 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the recent friendly match.
Arteta brought on £64 million signing Gyokeres, and the Swedish striker quickly made his mark with the Gunners' first goal with a high-jump header into the far corner of the goal.
Havertz started the match on the bench but was brought on in the 71st minute, before sealing a 3-0 victory for Arsenal. The German midfielder skillfully handled and finished despite the pressure, taking advantage of Bukayo Saka's precise assists.
Now, the big question mark is how Havertz will integrate after Gyokeres arrives at the Emirates. And is he at risk of missing his starting position or having to play as a reserve for next season?

However, after the match, Mikel Arteta reassured fans when he affirmed that Gyokeres and Havertz could completely complement each other well. He also stressed that Havertz is a versatile player who is capable of taking on a midfield role.
"They can play together, or Kai Havertz can take on many different positions. That helps improve the quality of the squad, increase tactical options and the ability to create countless difficulties for the opponent" - said the Spanish captain.
Arteta stressed that having multiple attack options is a "dilemma", but was positive, especially after last season when Arsenal were lacking a true centre-forward.
"It's great to see both players scoring and being in good form. This is the kind of problem that every coach wants," Arteta added.
Havertz, for his part, expects a strong start to the new season after his 2024-2025 campaign was cut short by injuries. The German midfielder knows that there will be fierce competition ahead, especially when Arsenal have just signed up expensive new signings such as Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke, each worth about £55 million.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres has high expectations to help Arsenal conquer the title this season, after an explosive individual campaign with 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting Lisbon.

Although Arsenal just lost 2-3 to Villarreal in the most recent friendly match, Mikel Arteta is still satisfied with the way the team reacted, especially the performances of Gyokeres and Havertz. He affirmed that the whole team's "upgrading their level" will bring long-term benefits.
"I am very satisfied with what I have witnessed. On a personal level, the players have shown excellent performances against a Champions League-class opponent. That feeling was amazing.
The first goal is always very important, and the way Gyokeres scored it was really great. We are gradually building connections with the new recruits, and everything is going very well. Kai Havertz also came on and I think his goal is equally impressive.
When everyone improves their level, it will really help us, because at this level, we need everyone to show their best form" - the Spanish strategist said.
