England's match against Greece comes after new manager Thomas Tuchel was appointed on 16 October. He has signed an 18-month contract, but will not take charge until January 2025. Assistant coach Lee Carsley will remain in charge for England's final two Nations League games of the year, against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Last month, Carsley’s experimental line-up saw them lose 3-1 to Greece at Wembley. The Three Lions are second in Nations League Group F, three points behind leaders Greece. Victory by at least two goals would see them climb to the top with just one game remaining.
On the other side, since appointing coach Ivan Jovanovic in August, Greece have won all four matches in the Nations League, moving closer to promotion to League A for the first time in history.
Thanks to that, Greece has risen 12 places in the FIFA rankings (from 54 to 42). As long as they don't lose to England, Greece can consolidate their top position in the group and will be more comfortable before entering the final match with Finland.
