With Brighton unwilling to sell Carlos Baleba for under £115 million, Man United have to switch to alternative targets to strengthen the midfield. Adam Wharton emerged as a leading candidate.
Adam Wharton, 21, has quickly established himself as one of the brightest talents in the Premier League since joining Palace. The "eagle" signed a contract with Wharton from Blackburn in January 2024 with a total deal value of up to 22 million pounds.
Last summer, Bayern Munich offered to sign Wharton but Palace refused. Not only M.U, but even Liverpool have been following Wharton for a long time, while Real Madrid sent scouts to watch him play last season.
During his 18-month tenure with Crystal Palace, Wharton has won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the team rare club titles.

Although he has only played for England once, Wharton is still considered a factor that can explode in the future. However, he has not been called up by Thomas Tuchel in recent training sessions.
With the attention of big teams, Crystal Palace will consider a lot about whether to sell Adam Wharton or not. The loss of the English star will certainly be a heavy blow to coach Oliver Glasner's plan. This team is facing the risk of losing many key players in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Tottenham are getting very close to a contract called Eberechi Eze, although this attacking player still played in the recent draw with Chelsea. Meanwhile, centre-back Marc Guehi is Liverpool's target but the Anfield team is unwilling to pay the £40 million fee demanded by Crystal Palace.
Guehi has only one year left on his contract and Palace are at risk of losing everything on a free transfer next summer if they don't find a way out soon.

In the context of Ruben Amorim gradually shaping a new playing style at Man United, adding a talented young midfielder is necessary. Although the "Red Devils" brought in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to reinforce their attack, the midfield still needs more creativity and youth. The 0-1 loss to Arsenal last Sunday proved that Man United need to strengthen their midfield.
Adam Wharton, with his ball control, playing distribution and defensive support, is considered a piece suitable for the reconstruction plan. His value in the transfer market may not be low but it will certainly be easter than the huge number that Brighton demands from Baleba.
However, to convince Crystal Palace to release him, the "Red Devils" certainly have to make a worthy offer. With Wharton growing up, and the ambition to reach both club and national team levels, this will be one of the most notable deals in the remainder of the transfer window.
