Overview
After a draw against Manchester United in the Premier League and a 0-3 defeat in the Europa League against Atalanta, Liverpool will be determined to find the winning feeling when hosting Crystal Palace at home.
Despite their recent poor form, The Kop have still picked up 27 points from behind in the Premier League this season. Only three teams - Newcastle in 2001-02 (34) and Man United in 2020-21 (31) and 2012 2013 (29) - have won more points than Liverpool after falling behind in a campaign.
Partly thanks to that ability, the "Red Brigade" is still ranked 2nd in the Premier League as of round 33. They are tied with Arsenal but have a lower goal difference and are 1 point ahead of Manchester City.
While the finishing problem is giving Jurgen Klopp a headache, Liverpool still create countless opportunities. They have made 629 shots in the Premier League this season, at least 70 more than any other team.
Liverpool's average of 20.3 shots per game this season is also the third highest record in a Premier League season. Among them, Darwin Nunez stood out the most with 100 shots, but most of them were ineffective.
In terms of defense, Klopp can temporarily rest assured as The Kop have conceded about 7 goals less than the expected number of goals conceded (30 goals conceded/36.5 xG). Only Man United have a better number than Liverpool in this aspect (46 goals conceded/58.2 xG).
In contrast, the Crystal Palace visitors conceded nearly 10 more goals than expected (54 goals conceded/44.3 xG). Only Sheffield, the team facing the risk of relegation, has a worse number.
Palace lost 2-4 to Man City in their most recent Premier League match. This defeat left them 14th and just five points behind the relegation zone before round 33.
In that context, injuries are also plagued at Palace. Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure, Marc Guehi, Rob Holding, Matheus Franca and Chris Richards are all absent, although youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could return to the squad.
On the other side of the front line, Klopp will be boosted by the return of the trio Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson. Jota came off the bench in the loss to Atalanta, while Alexander-Arnold and Bajcetic were not used. Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip are the remaining long-term absentees of Liverpool.
Head-to-head record
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League games against Crystal Palace (W11 D2), since their home defeat in April 2017. In this season's first leg at Selhurst Park, the "Red Brigade" won 2-1.
The Eagles have also not had a good record at Anfield in recent years. They have failed to win in their last six Premier League visits to Liverpool. That bad run of results came after three consecutive wins between 2015 and 2017.
However, in the last meeting at Anfield, Palace drew 1-1. That match also saw Nunez sent off in his home debut for Liverpool.
