Overview
Malmo have shown a completely different side in the domestic league compared to the European arena this season. Coach Henrik Rydstrom's team continued to dominate the Swedish national championship when they won the title at the end of November 2024. This is also the 27th domestic title in their history.
Malmo also recently defeated Torslanda 5-2 in the National Cup. However, the team at Eleda Stadion has lost 4/5 matches in this year's Europa League, conceding 10 goals and is currently ranked 30th.
In contrast to Malmo, Galatasaray has been playing consistently in all competitions. The RAMS Park team is unbeaten after the first 14 rounds of the Turkish league and is leading the rankings, creating a 6-point gap with arch-rival Fenerbahce.
In the Europa League, coach Okan Buruk's team won 3 and drew 2 after 5 matches to enter the top 4.
In addition, Galatasaray is also the team with the strongest attack in the domestic league and Europa League. They have scored 38 and 13 goals respectively in the above tournaments since the beginning of the season.
Galatasaray currently has quality names in attack such as Victor Osimhen, Akgun, Yilmaz, Batshuayi and Mertens. Overall, it is very difficult for the Turkish team to lose points against Malmo in the next match.
Human resources situation
With extensive experience in the English leagues from his time at Brentford and Leeds United, Pontus Jansson is a big absentee for Malmo at the moment. Jansson is still recovering from a knee injury.
The home team are also without winger Sead Haksabanovic, who suffered a groin injury and was ruled out in late August.
On the other side of the front line, Mauro Icardi will also have to miss the rest of the 2024-25 season. In addition, Yilmaz will have to sit out until early next year due to a thigh strain.
Expected lineup:
Malmo: Friedrich, Larsen, Rosler, Zatterstrom, Busanello, Pena, Johnsen, Thelin, Christiansen, Rosengren, Botheim.
Galatasaray: Muslera, Sanchez, Baltaci, Bardakci, Kutlu, Torreira, Sara, Akgun, Mertens, Batshuayi, Osimhen.
The match between Malmo and Galatasaray takes place at 0:45 am on December 13 (Vietnam time).
