On the evening of July 27, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Xen Commune (Nghe An Province) issued an urgent notice warning of continuing heavy rain, causing serious landslides on National Highway 7 - the main artery connecting the downstream with the mountainous districts of Nghe An.

According to Mr. Hung, rocks and soil continued to flow down, blocking the road, causing complete traffic congestion and many points were seriously eroded. "People and relief vehicles should not move through National Highway 7 at this time," he emphasized.

Previously, the historic flood that swept through the communes of western Nghe An such as Muong Xen, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong... caused particularly serious consequences: 4 people died, 4 people were injured, hundreds of houses were swept away and destroyed; thousands of houses were deeply flooded. Many roads, including National Highway 7, National Highway 48C, and inter-commune roads, were eroded and cut off, making rescue and supply work extremely difficult.

In the past few days, the authorities and functional forces have been urgently clearing roads and searching and rescuing people, many volunteer groups have also set out to support people in flooded areas. However, prolonged heavy rains on July 27 continued to hinder the effort.

"The situation is very difficult, especially affecting traffic, people's lives and rescue work. Nghe An mountainous areas are more difficult than ever" - Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung shared.

Currently, functional forces are on duty at landslide sites, and at the same time advise people not to travel through dangerous routes, especially National Highway 7.
