As part of the plan to restart sporting events, DFL has conducted 1,724 tests with all clubs in Germany's top two leagues, Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. The results confirmed that there were up to 10 cases positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Immediately, these cases were taken to isolation and treated under the guidance of local health agencies. DFL does not disclose the identities of COVID-19 infections or clubs with infected people.
"As part of the first phase of the test, a total of 1,724 COVID-19 tests were conducted at 36 Bundesliga clubs and 2 Bundesliga clubs by 5 specialized laboratory groups across Germany.
10 cases of infection have been identified and reported to health agencies. Corresponding measures such as quarantine of affected people, including environmental diagnostics, are taken directly by clubs under the guidance of local health agencies.
A second inspection will be conducted this week. In particular, one of the tasks of the second round of inspections is to reduce cases of "fake psychology" that have not yet developed the disease. DFL will continue to report the results after this test," DFL announced.
Late last night, Cologne club (Bundesliga) also suddenly announced the discovery of 3 COVID-19 infections. This raises concerns about German football leagues not being able to return on May 16. However, Cologne still insists that all will follow the old plan. Apart from 3 cases being quarantined, the whole team still practiced normally.
The epidemic situation in Germany, although it has made many positive improvements, is generally extremely complicated. It is expected that on June 6, the organizing committee of German football tournaments will meet with the Government to discuss plans for restarting.
