Kylian Mbappe has filed a lawsuit against PSG. The French striker believes that his former team lacks him 55 million Euros in salary. Meanwhile, PSG strongly objected and appealed. The French team believes that this is the amount of money that will be paid if Mbappe stays at Parc des Princes. However, he moved to Real Madrid after his contract expired.
PSG argued that the club included a "legally amended" clause in the contract extension signed by both parties in 2023. At that time, Mbappe agreed to a contract until the summer of 2024, whether to extend it to 2025 or not was up to him, not PSG.
Currently, PSG's appeal has been accepted by the French Appellate Committee. The procedures will be carried out by the French Professional Football Management Agency (LFP).
Returning to the lawsuit between the two sides, last week, PSG was asked by the LFP to pay 55 million Euros. The LFP stated that the deadline for the Paris capital team to pay is this Friday night (local time). Initially, the LFP wanted the two sides to reconcile, but Mbappe's side refused. After that, the LFP was forced to make a recommendation to PSG.
If the "Prentins' Park" team does not pay, the case could be resolved by a labor court in France. PSG can appeal to two other agencies, the French Football Federation and the French Olympic Committee, before the two sides take each other to court.
"With the player's refusal to mediate, we are forced to rely on the constraints related to the contract between the two sides.
The club side believes this is not necessarily a dispute, everything will be brought to court in a transparent and legal manner. The contract has been legally amended and is also fully trusted by the players. Everything was fine until the player denied all commitments and left the team.
In principle, PSG has appealed the LFP's opinion but there are still certain limitations. The team's position is very solid, not only that, it also has goodwill, honesty and respect for sports values as well as fans.
Legally, the players have set very clear principles, pledging to respect the club in both public and private matter. In 7 years of playing at PSG, the players have received unprecedented benefits. If the players continue to pursue the issue that damages the club's reputation, we will be very sorry" - quoted from PSG's statement about the incident.
The incident started last summer when Mbappe informed PSG that he would not stay until 2025 and would leave on a free transfer this summer. As soon as they learned that, PSG put Mbappe up for sale and removed him from the squad to tour Japan and Korea. In January this year, the 25-year-old striker said that the deal had been agreed by all parties.
PSG argue that, with Mbappe's extension in 2023, the event was witnessed by sporting director Luis Campos and captain Luis Enrique. It consists of two scripts. First, if Mbappe stays, he will leave the team for 180 million Euros in the summer of 2024. The French superstar will receive 82 million Euros for loyalty.
In case 2, if Mbappe leaves the team in the summer of 2024 on a free agency, the two sides will adjust to reduce salary conditions in the 2023-2024 season. The amount to be paid will be based on the profit level committed by both parties under "Clause No. 1" (maintained). In other words, this is the case where if Mbappe leaves as a free agent, he may only be paid a small salary so that the team can still consider him as receiving a large sum, similar to the transfer fee if he is sold to another team.
Both of these scenarios could see PSG enjoy a profit of around €98 million, exceeding Mbappes demand. If they decide to take each other to court, PSG hopes to collect this huge amount.
