Coach Ruben Amorim said his top priority as head coach of Manchester United is to restore the identity that the club had in the past. The Portuguese tactician will do everything to return the club to its original position.
The 39-year-old strategist officially arrived at Old Trafford earlier this week and said he felt attached to the club. Amorim expressed his joy at becoming the first coach appointed under the new regime.
Amorim said he was inspired by the glory and tragedy in the history of the "Red Devils" to find a way to bring the team back to the level they had achieved.
While focusing on the 3-4-3 system that he successfully applied at his former club Sporting, Amorim intends to make his own mark on the players he inherited from Erik ten Hag.
"The most important thing for me is to build an identity. That is something that must be done from day one. A lot of people talk about 3-4-3, 4-3-3 and things like that. But when I think about Man United, the squad system is not the most important, it is the character of the players.
The most important thing for me at the moment is to create the principles, the identity and the character that the team had in the past," Amorim told MUTV.
Amorim insists he cannot ask for patience, but will instead make an immediate mark in the first game against Ipswich Town.
"We know it will take time. But we have to start from day one with the mentality of not being afraid, not thinking that the players are not used to playing this style. I don't think about that.
The players will start from day one with my idea, whatever it is. That is the goal," Amorim said.
The Portuguese "captain" moved to Man United with five associates, including assistant coach Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital and sports science expert Paulo Barreira.
However, they have not been able to officially work until the "Red Devils" have completed procedures related to labor licenses.
The 39-year-old strategist is expected to make his debut when Man United visit Ipswich Town in round 12 of the Premier League on November 24. Amorim will work with the entire Man United squad about 3 days before that.
