Manager Ruben Amorim says his top priority as Manchester United manager is to restore the club to its former glory. The Portuguese tactician will do everything he can to get the club back to where it should be.
The 39-year-old arrived at Old Trafford earlier this week and said he felt a sense of belonging to the club. Amorim expressed his delight at becoming the first manager appointed under the new regime.
Amorim said he was inspired by the glory and tragedy in the history of the "Red Devils" to find a way to bring the team back to the level they once achieved.
While focusing on the 3-4-3 system that worked so well at former club Sporting, Amorim intends to put his own stamp on the players he inherited from Erik ten Hag.
"The most important thing for me is to build an identity. That's something that has to be done from day one. A lot of people talk about 3-4-3, 4-3-3 and things like that. But when I think about Man United, the system is not the most important, it's the character of the players.
The most important thing for me at the moment is to create the principles, identity and character that the team had in the past," Amorim told MUTV.
Amorim insists he cannot beg for patience, instead looking to make an immediate impact in his first game in charge against Ipswich Town.
"We know it will take time. But we have to start from day one with the mentality of not being afraid, not thinking that the players are not used to playing this style. I don't think about this.
The players will start on day one with my ideas, no matter what. That's the goal," Amorim affirmed.
The Portuguese "captain" moved to Man United with 5 colleagues, including assistant coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and sports science expert Paulo Barreira.
However, they cannot officially start working until the "Red Devils" complete the procedures related to work permits.
The 39-year-old strategist is expected to make his debut when Man United visit Ipswich Town in the 12th round of the Premier League on November 24. Amorim will work with the entire Man United squad about 3 days before.
