New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been encouraged to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy in his Old Trafford coaching squad.
Van Nistelrooy is the interim coach of the "Red Devils" after Erik ten Hag was fired. The Dutchman has been an assistant coach under Ten Hag since joining Man United this summer.
However, there is still uncertainty over whether Amorim will keep Van Nistelrooy when he takes over. Man United's bosses are negotiating to bring Amorim's assistant team at Sporting Lisbon to Old Trafford.
Even if those negotiations are successful, Man United star Diogo Dalot still believes Van Nistelrooy should stay. The Portuguese defender praised Van Nistelrooy as a coach and affirmed that the whole team highly appreciates this strategist.
"I think he has that quality. Obviously, it's not my decision, but I really like the way he approaches as an assistant. Obviously he is doing the interim job now, he has the ability to do that because he was the head coach," Dalot told Sky Sports.
Van Nistelrooy led Man United to an easy win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup. This was his first match as caretaker manager of Man United. But after this victory, the Dutchman admitted that he was still uncertain about his future.
"This will be a short-term temporary job. That has been communicated very clearly and I am very happy. I feel called to help the club move forward in this situation. I'm here as an assistant to help the club move forward.
Let's see but this is my contract situation. I want to help the club move forward, so I can tell you my story. And then, when the new situation comes on, when the new manager signs and the discussions start, we have to see how things develop," said Van Nistelrooy.
Van Nistelrooy shared that his former friends and teammates at Man United such as Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes could turn their backs if the team lost to Chelsea. However, the Dutch strategist is not bothered by this.
