New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been urged to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy on his coaching staff at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy is currently the Red Devils' interim manager following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman had been working as an assistant coach under Ten Hag after joining Man United this summer.
However, there is still uncertainty over whether Amorim will retain Van Nistelrooy when he takes over, with United bosses in talks to bring Amorim's Sporting Lisbon coaching staff to Old Trafford.
Even if those talks are successful, Man United star Diogo Dalot believes Van Nistelrooy should stay. The Portuguese defender praised Van Nistelrooy as a coach and insisted that the whole squad appreciated him.
"I think he has that quality. Obviously, it's not my decision, but I really like the way he approaches being an assistant. Obviously he's doing the interim job now, he has the ability to do that because he was a head coach," Dalot told Sky Sports.
Van Nistelrooy led Man United to a comfortable win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup. This was his first match as caretaker manager of Man United. But after this victory, the Dutchman admitted that he still did not know his future.
"It's going to be a short-term temporary job. That was communicated very clearly and I'm delighted. I feel called to help the club move forward in this situation. I'm here as an assistant to help the club move forward.
"We'll see but this is my contract situation. I want to help the club move forward so I can tell you my story. And then, when the new situation happens, when the new coach signs and the discussions start, we'll have to see how things develop," Van Nistelrooy said.
Van Nistelrooy shared that his old friends and teammates at Man United such as Gary Neville, Roy Keane or Paul Scholes might turn their backs if the team lost to Chelsea. However, the Dutch strategist is not bothered by this.
