Akira Nishino has officially become the head coach of the national team and U23 Thailand with the signing ceremony of the "Golden Temple" Football Federation. The signing ceremony was held in Japan and the two sides held a press conference immediately afterwards.
He shared with the Japanese media, Mr. Akira Nishino affirmed that he was very happy to work with Thai football. The Japanese strategist revealed his ambition to reach the continental level with the "War Elephants": "Thailand's goal is to go further in the future, to become the top team in Asia. I have not learned much about their country's football background. Therefore, this is a difficult task".
When asked about the upcoming goals for the Thai team, especially in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and the 2020 U23 Asian Cup finals, Coach Nishino affirmed that he wanted more than that. "In addition to the above two goals, we have the SEA Games. Every ASEAN country is focusing on this Congress," he said.
"The opponents in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers are very strong. I need to carefully study each player before calling them up for the goal of winning Vietnam on September 5 and then the away match against Indonesia on September 10. I can call up some new faces, but it depends on reality," the former Japan coach added.
Coach Akira Nishino is 64 years old this year, and is one of the most successful coaches in the land of the rising sun. He helped the Japanese national team reach the 1/8 round of the 2018 World Cup. In the past, coach Akira Nishino has led the U20 Japan (1991-1992) and U23 Japan (1994-1996).
Coach Akira Nishino will receive a salary of about 81,000 USD per month. On July 21, the Japanese coach will be in Bangkok and have another press conference before officially starting work.
