Aston Villa - Man City match information
Man City will be looking to get back to winning ways when they visit Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on December 21.
Man City suffered a disastrous 2-1 home defeat to rivals Man United last weekend, as Bruno Fernandes' penalty and Amad Diallo's 90th-minute winner condemned Pep Guardiola's side to defeat once again.
The Citizens' chances of winning a fifth consecutive Premier League title appear to be over as they are nine points behind leaders Liverpool and have played one game more.
Defeat in the Manchester derby means Man City have lost five of their last seven Premier League games, as many as they lost in their previous 67 combined. The last time they lost more in a single league campaign was in 2020-21 (six).
Their form in cup competitions has also been poor, first being knocked out of the English League Cup by Tottenham. Furthermore, Man City have also failed to win in their last three Champions League matches.
Man City have lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions, as many as they lost in their previous 106. Even when leading, Man City are not guaranteed to win, or even not lose. The clearest evidence was the defeat to Man United last round.
Man City will be in for a tough challenge this week when they face Aston Villa, who are always difficult to play against at home, despite their inconsistent form. Villa may have lost four of their last seven Premier League games, but they are unbeaten in their last seven at Villa Park (W4 D3).
The Villans have also impressed at home on their return to the Champions League, picking up seven points from three games, including a win over Bayern Munich in October when Jhon Duran scored the winning goal to give the team a 1-0 win.
Aston Villa have also had a bit of bad luck in the Premier League so far, conceding 25 goals this season despite an expected goals conceded of just 19.5. Only Woles - who have conceded 40 goals against an expected goals conceded of 27.6 - have a worse record than Aston Villa.
In injury news, Leon Bailey and Tyrone Mings could be fit to feature for Unai Emery's side, although Jacob Ramsey is not expected to return until the new year.
Man City's shocking drop in form largely coincided with midfielder Rodri's ACL injury, which will sideline him until next season.
Guardiola will also be without Oscar Bobb and Nathan Ake for this game, although Manuel Akanji could feature. Rico Lewis, meanwhile, is fit to play after serving a suspension.
Aston Villa - Man City Head to Head
Villa beat Man City at home 1-0 last season, but have not won consecutive home games against Man City since April 1993.
Man City have an impressive overall record against Aston Villa in the Premier League, winning 30 games and scoring 98 goals. This record is only second to their head-to-head record against Newcastle, where Man City have won 31 games and scored 102 goals.
The last meeting between the two sides was in April 2024 when Foden's hat-trick and Rodri's goal gave Man City an easy 4-1 win.
