Notable information about the match Man United - Newcastle
Manchester United return to Old Trafford to end another difficult year, after suffering back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth and Wolves. The Red Devils failed to score in either game, and are on the verge of losing a third consecutive game without scoring for the first time since May 2015.
The stats are against United. Since the start of December 2024, they have lost four Premier League games – the most in the competition. The last time they lost more games in the top flight in a calendar month was in September 1962 (five).
Amorim's side have also lost their last two home games, 2-3 to Nottingham Forest and 0-3 to Bournemouth. If they lose to Newcastle again, United will have lost three consecutive games at Old Trafford for the first time since February 1979.
The defeat to Wolves left Amorim's side 14th in the table and closer to the relegation zone (8 points) than the top four (12 points), heading into the final round of fixtures in 2024.
There is also not much good news about the squad. Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are injured and cannot play. Bruno is suspended due to the red card he received against Wolves, while Manuel Ugarte is also unable to play due to receiving five yellow cards.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are in a completely different form to United, winning their last three Premier League games against Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Aston Villa, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. That run has lifted Eddie Howe's side to fifth in the table.
The last time Newcastle won four consecutive games was in March-April 2023 (5 games), while the last time they did it without conceding was in April 2012.
Alexander Isak is in fine form, scoring in his last five Premier League games. Isak has also scored 24 Premier League goals in 2024 – only Alan Shearer has scored more in a calendar year for the Magpies (27 in 2002).
Gordon is also an attacking threat that United need to be wary of. The midfielder scored home and away against United last season, although no Newcastle player has scored in three consecutive games against the Red Devils in this competition.
Howe is hopeful Tino Livramento will be available at Old Trafford, while Sven Botman, Emil Krafth, Nick Pope, Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson are all out until 2025.
