According to the Chicago Larry Snelling police chief, the incident occurred around 11pm in the River North. When people were leaving a location and standing on the sidewalk, a car pulled in and the person inside the car hit the crowd.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Snelling said that the incident only lasted for a few seconds, the subjects pointed guns in all directions and did not care who was hit. They shot 18 people, Snelling said.
At the scene of the incident, the police found shells of bullets of different sizes, but the motives of the firewers were still unknown.
Of the 4 victims who died, 2 men and 2 women were both in their 20s. Of the 14 injured, some are in critical condition, aged between 20 and 30.
Also on the evening of July 3, another mass shooting occurred in the South Side, Chicago, killing four people.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed his disappointment with the chaos and pledged to find the culprit behind it.
However, despite these shootings, Chicago crime data shows that the number of murders has decreased by 32% from the beginning of 2025 to June 29 and the number of shootings has also decreased by 39% compared to the same period.
