Thailand national team wary of Singapore in ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-finals

Thai goalkeeper Kampon Phathomakkakul has warned his teammates not to underestimate Singapore, when the two teams meet in the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-finals.

Thailand is at the top of Group B with 4 consecutive wins, scoring 10 goals and not conceding a goal. Meanwhile, Singapore is ranked 2nd in Group A. The first leg semi-final between the two teams will take place at 8:00 PM on August 15th at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.

Before the training session, Kampon emphasized the importance of maintaining focus when facing opponents who he believes have made significant progress in recent years.

He said: "Thailand has achieved the first goal by being at the top of the group, winning maximum points and keeping a clean sheet. That is thanks to the tactics and methods of the coach, as well as the mutual support of everyone.

Now we have to focus on the match against Singapore. The result of the first leg will be very important because it can decide the whole semi-finals. We will aim for a positive result”.

Kampon admitted physical difficulties when having to move continuously throughout the tournament but emphasized his role in supporting younger teammates.

Looking from the outside, it seems that moving and playing seems easy, but in reality it is much more difficult. My task is to help young players maintain confidence and maintain their form. We want to win for Thailand.

The goalkeeper born in 1992 added that experience in the squad will be very important. "We have participated in many ASEAN Cup tournaments and always try to improve through each tournament. Veteran players and coaching staff are trying their best to make the team better.

Singapore has developed a lot and qualified for the Asian Cup finals. We cannot underestimate them”.

Striker Teerasak Poeiphimai also agreed with Kampon's point of view, emphasizing the importance of discipline when facing well-organized opponents.

He shared: "We are carefully considering tactics before facing Singapore. I scored against them at the ASEAN Cup 2024, so I am quite confident, but they are very strong and have a good system. Many of their players are key players at club level and have played together for a long time. We must be very careful.

Teerasak welcomed the return of striker Patrik Gustavsson, who he believes will give Thailand more attacking options. He added: "The use of personnel depends on the coach, but our task is to dedicate ourselves in every match. We hope Thai fans will come to the stadium and cheer for us.

Thailand is having an overwhelming head-to-head record against Singapore as they have defeated their opponent in the last 10 matches. Their most recent victory was in November 2025, when they defeated Singapore 3-2 in an international friendly match in Thailand.
