After the match in round 25 of the Portuguese national championship, Benfica's bus was attacked, resulting in injuries to former Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl and his teammates.

This incident has seriously affected his health, both Julian Weigl and Andrija Zivkovic have to be treated at the hospital. Therefore, Benfica announced that it will help the authorities find the culprit who kicked the team's bus.

The team's car became a target as it was going down a large highway in Estadio da Luz, right after a goalless draw with Tondela. This is also a match marking the return of the Portuguese national championship (Primeira Liga) after the COVID-19 pandemic break.

Unable to enter the stadium directly to cheer, a number of fans gathered outside the stadium in Lisbon to support the spirit of the two teams. Everything went very well until the accident happened.

Unable to accept the perpetrator's actions, Benfica issued a statement: "Benfica is disappointed and cannot tolerate the person who attacked the bus carrying the players to the Seixal Training Center, and caused them to suffer.

We informed that players Julian Weigl and Zivkovic have been taken to Luz Dermatology Hospital for monitoring, after the pieces of glass were applied to them. Benfica will ensure full cooperation with the authorities to identify the perpetrator and hold him responsible before the law".

Among the injured, one is former Dortmund star Julian Weigl. He just moved to Benfica in January for 20 million Euros. After going to the hospital for a check-up, the German player issued a notice to reassure fans about his health condition.

For Benfica, the situation of the force was not affected too much after the above incident. Currently, Julian Weigl and his teammates are tied with arch-rivals Porto. The tournament will have 9 more matches to end, this will be the time to decide the championship.
