The 2026 World Cup is the largest tournament in history when it gathers 48 national teams with a total of 104 matches, taking place in 3 countries: the US, Canada and Mexico.
In Vietnam, Vietnam Television (VTV) is the unit that owns the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup. According to the announcement, VTV holds full rights to exploit television, internet, mobile devices, radio and public broadcasting.
A new point of this year's copyright package is the right to public broadcasting. VTV is the only unit in Vietnam licensed to organize or license concentrated football viewing activities such as fan zones, squares, restaurants, cafes, cinemas or other public places.
Regarding the method of watching the tournament, all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup will be broadcast on VTV's channel system including VTV1, VTV2, VTV3, VTV7, VTV9, VTV10 and VTV Can Tho. In which, VTV3 is identified as the main channel, broadcasting the highlight matches, opening ceremony and final match.
Notably, just a few days before the 2026 World Cup kicked off, VTV was licensed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to produce the VTV6 Sports channel.
The 2026 World Cup is expected to be broadcast on VTV6 alongside VTV's familiar channels, helping viewers have more choices to watch the biggest football festival on the planet.
VTV6's return right at the time of the World Cup also opens up opportunities for VTV to build a specialized channel on sports, serving the needs of watching major domestic and international tournaments.
In addition to traditional television, viewers can watch the tournament on the VTVgo digital platform. At the same time, VTV also allows some units to broadcast the 2026 World Cup such as FPT Play, SCTV, VTVCab, MyTV and TV360, helping viewers have more choices on online and pay television platforms.
The 2026 World Cup will officially kick off from June 12 to July 20.
