On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 8th ASEAN Ministers' Meeting on Sports (AMMS 8) on the morning of October 13, Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet - Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam shared about the Vietnam team's recent lack of competition at My Dinh National Stadium.
Mr. Viet emphasized: We work with a plan as well as a grasp of the schedule of the Vietnam team. My Dinh Stadium is currently in the repair phase. The national sports complex is a 100% autonomous unit, so it also needs other activities than sports. Not only competing in football, we also organize other sports competitions such as swimming, athletics...
Regarding the competition location of the national team, this was proposed by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to use Phu Tho Stadium to compete in the recent ASEAN Cup 2024, recently moving to Binh Duong Stadium. Vietnam's national team, not just Hanoi. Of course, My Dinh Stadium is a number 1 priority managed by the sports industry".
The leader of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports added: "Recently, My Dinh Stadium has had a series of events, not only music and business but also serving the political tasks assigned by the Party and State leaders.
These are the overall tasks of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports, especially the National Sports Complex.
For football, we always coordinate with VFF to carry out the main task. The parties also calculated that the teams will be able to compete on all levels of professional football across the country, so that the people can enjoy their love".

Previously, at the regular meeting of the third quarter of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen - Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam also said that My Dinh Stadium is currently being comprehensively upgraded from the grass to the drainage system. The prolonged repair will make it impossible for the stadium to host football matches in the near future.
However, Ms. Yen affirmed that there are no mandatory regulations for My Dinh Stadium to be the only home stadium of the Vietnam team.
"Currently, many stadiums such as Hang Day, Viet Tri, Binh Duong or Thong Nhat all meet AFC and FIFA standards, qualified to organize international tournaments.
In fact, some clubs are choosing a stadium that suits local conditions for international competitions. For example, Hanoi Police use Hang Day Stadium in the AFC Champions League Two and Southeast Asian Cup C1, it is not necessary to compete in My Dinh", Ms. Yen said.
