In mid-December, the Vietnamese team will enter the group stage of the ASEAN Cup (formerly known as the AFF Cup). Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are in Group B with Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.
In terms of strength and form, Indonesia and the Philippines are currently considered two direct competitors for the top spot with Vietnam. Therefore, the “Golden Star Warriors” are expected to face many challenges in the group stage.
In order to best prepare for the AFF Cup 2024, especially the two matches against Indonesia (December 15) and the Philippines (December 18), the coaching staff of the Vietnamese team has made a specific plan. It is expected that on the occasion of FIFA Days in November, coach Kim Sang-sik and his colleagues will directly go to Indonesia and the Philippines to watch the matches of these two teams.
"In preparation for the AFF Cup 2024, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and I have analyzed the opponents in Group B through videotapes of the latest matches that the opponents have just played.
My coaching staff and I are still closely following the preparation process of Indonesia and the Philippines. In November, I will go to Indonesia and the Philippines to watch their matches, from which we will have more thorough analysis. We are not afraid to face Indonesia," the Korean coach revealed.
This is a necessary preparation for the Vietnamese team, helping the coaching staff understand their opponents better. In particular, Mr. Kim Sang-sik must carefully study the Indonesian team as they have added many quality naturalized players and have shown improvement in recent times.
Regarding the professional preparation of the Vietnamese team, coach Kim Sang-sik will have 3 weeks to gather with his players before the AFF Cup starts. During that time, he will focus on improving physical strength, increasing connection between the lines and promoting the players' competitive spirit.
It is expected that the Vietnamese team will have a short training trip in Korea, and also have some practice matches with clubs in the land of kimchi.
