On the evening of July 22, U23 Vietnam won 2-1 against U23 Cambodia in the final match of the group stage of the 2025 U23 Southeast Asian Championship. This result helped coach Kim Sang-sik and his team advance to the semi-finals as the top team in Group B and will face the U23 Philippines.
"U23 Vietnam conceded 1 goal. Before conceding, we missed many opportunities. Things became difficult when the opponent scored the equalizer. However, we still have faith in the players.
I am very happy about this victory. U23 Vietnam won 2 matches in the group stage thanks to the players and the support of the fans. In the semi-finals, we will meet the Philippines. The whole team will prepare well to win," coach Kim Sang-sik shared at the post-match press conference.
The Korean coach said that in the next round, regardless of the opponent's team, U23 Vietnam will be cautious, prepare solutions to deal with, and aim to win.
Mr. Kim Sang-sik said: "We are confident before the semi-final. The U23 Philippines is also a visiting team, so it will be easier than the host team Indonesia. They are a strong team with balance. We have analyzed this team. The whole team will try.
U23 Vietnam has scored 3 goals from set pieces by the central defenders. I hope they will continue to score in the semi-finals as well as aim for the final. However, I also hope the other players shine".
