On the evening of December 15, at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho Province), the Indonesian team suffered a 0-1 defeat to the Vietnamese team. This was the second consecutive match that coach Shin Tae-yong and his team failed to win in Group B of the 2024 ASEAN Cup, following a 3-3 draw with Laos at home. With only 4 points after 3 matches, Indonesia is facing a big challenge in competing for a ticket to the semi-finals in this group.
"I would like to congratulate the Vietnamese team and Mr. Kim Sang-sik on this victory. Our team has many young players, so there are gaps with the experienced players of the Vietnamese team. The Indonesian players also tried their best, but there are still gaps. We have learned useful lessons from this match.
We don't have enough time to prepare for this match. Young players also need time to improve and develop. It's also difficult for me to apply clear tactics to young players right now, they need more time to get used to it," coach Shin Tae-yong of the Indonesian team shared after losing to the Vietnamese team.
Regarding the Indonesian team's chances of advancing in Group B of the ASEAN Cup 2024, Mr. Shin assessed: "We are still preparing for the semi-finals and believe that Indonesia can advance."
"I think the 10 teams participating in the ASEAN Cup have different situations. We don't have direct flights to countries like Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar. On average, it takes us 15 hours to travel, and when we get to Myanmar, it takes 16 hours. As a coach, I'm also tired of this schedule. I can't imagine how tired the young players will be. The players also have opinions because their health is affected. Everything is very difficult," Mr. Shin Tae-yong added about the difficulties the Indonesian team is facing.
After this defeat, the Indonesian team will continue to train to prepare for the next match in Group B of the 2024 ASEAN Cup against the Philippines at home on December 21.
