The Road and Railway Traffic Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC08) said that the unit has received the feedback information and directed the Ben Thanh Traffic Police Team to inspect, review, and coordinate with relevant units of the Department of Transport to clarify the cause of the incident.
Previously, on the afternoon of January 18, people traveling to the intersection of Nguyen Huu Canh - Ton Duc Thang (District 1) suddenly encountered a traffic light that suddenly turned from green to red.
According to a traffic participant, when the traffic light turned green with a 45-second countdown, he drove through the intersection, but then had to brake suddenly because the light only lasted for 40 seconds before turning yellow and then red again.
The incident caused more than 10 motorbikes and cars to not brake in time, leading to violations of traffic light signals.
According to PC08, at the time of the incident at the intersection, there was no traffic police team to handle violations, so no cases were punished.
The leader of the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center (HCMC Department of Transport) said that PC08 Department recorded that the traffic light system at this intersection is not a smart light system but operates according to a pre-installed cycle.
After checking the traffic light management system of the center, the unit did not detect any human intervention or impact on the traffic light control cabinet.
According to PC08, it is possible that the system setup program suddenly switched the light cycle due to not fully performing the previous light countdown cycle, causing the above problem.
The unit continues to coordinate to handle technical problems. For the vehicles (motorbikes, cars) in the clip, if there are violations of traffic lights due to this incident, the authorities will consider not handling the violation.
