The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially started the appeal process after receiving a penalty from FIFA - related to forging documents to legalize 7 naturalized players in the match against the Vietnam team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to The Star (Malaysia), Mr. Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin - Honorary President of FAM, who is also a FIFA Council member, will leave for FIFA headquarters in Zurich (Switzerland) on September 28 to directly handle the incident.
Previously, on September 26, FIFA announced a penalty for FAM for the act of "forging records" for 7 players Gabriel Palmero, facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel.
According to the accusation, FAM submitted dishonest documents during the player registration process for the match against Vietnam on June 10, 2025. The fine for FAM includes 350,000 CHF, while each player is fined 2,000 CHF and banned from all football activities for 12 months.
In response to this development, home clubs such as Deportivo Alaves (Spanish - player Garces), America de Cali (colombia - player Holgado), Unionistas de Salamanca (Spanish - player Palmero), and Velez Sarsfield (Argentina - player Machuca) all confirmed that the above players will be suspended from competition until the results of the appeal from FIFA.
